We heartily welcome you to the Institute of Computer Education (IOCE). In today's article, we will get detailed information about the next setting of WinRAR. When you click on the option menu on the menu bar of WinRAR software, then the first option you get is the setting. By clicking on the setting, a box opens, in which some menus appear on the menu bar. The second option in this is compression.

WinRAR Detailed Guide to Options Settings

Now when you click on the "Compression" menu, you will see a button named "Create Default" inside the "Compression Profile" section. By clicking on this button, a new box opens in front of you once again. This box also has a menu bar whose third menu is "Options". In today's article, we will learn the settings given in this Options menu of WinRAR.

There are mainly three sections inside this menu. The first section is Delete Mode, the second section is Quick Open Information and the third section is Archive Feature. Let us understand this now:

Delete Mode Section:

With the help of the options given in this section, you can set the deletion of your files after compressing them. In this section, the following options are given along with the radio button to delete files:

Delete File: If you keep this radio button selected, then when you compress a file, the original file will be deleted automatically after that file is compressed. This is a normal delete process in which files are deleted directly.

Move File to Recycle Bin: If you keep this radio button selected, then when you compress a file, after the compression process is completed, the original file goes to the recycle bin. The advantage of this is that you can retrieve it if needed.

Wipe File: If you keep this radio button selected, then the original file is safely deleted after each compression. This means that the files are overwritten so that they cannot be retrieved. This option can prove useful for you only when you want to delete the files permanently.

Wipe Encrypted Files:

There is a check box named Wipe Encrypted Files in the Delete Mode section itself. If you select this check box, then WinRAR will permanently delete the encrypted files after each compression.

Quick Open Information Section:

Under this section, you can set your WinRAR as to what type of action WinRAR should take to add additional information when you open compressed files.

Do Not Add: If you select this radio button, then when you open a compressed file, WinRAR will not add any additional information to your file. If you do not want to access the files quickly, then you can select this option.

Add for Larger Files: If you select this radio button, then WinRAR adds access information to quickly access such compressed files which are large. This is useful for large archives that need to be opened quickly.

Add for All files: If you select this radio button, WinRAR adds fast access information for all your file types. This makes it faster to open the entire archive. However, this may slightly increase the size of the compressed file.

Archive Feature Section:

This section allows you to manage the archive features.

Use BLAKE2 file checksum: If you select this check box, WinRAR will use the BLAKE2 checksum for your compressed files. It is a faster and more secure checksum algorithm than CRC32 or MD5.

Save Identical Files as References: If you select this check box, WinRAR will compress files with the same content only once and save the rest as references, which can reduce the archive size.

Save Original Archive Name and Time: If you select this check box, WinRAR will save the original name and compression time of the files in its metadata while compressing them. This option is very useful for you when you need to retain the original name and time information of the compressed files.

Thus using these settings, you can customize your storage experience according to your needs.
